Album of The Year:

Winner

“Show Pony” -Orville Peck

Nominations

“Poems of The Past” Powfu

“Show Pony” Orville Peck

“Love Goes” Sam Smith

Taking a big leap forward from his previous project, “Pony”, “Show Pony” finds Peck in a more romantic and optimistic state of mind. The country crooner wails through songs like “Drive Me, Crazy”, and sings about the beauty of youth and friendship on “Kids”. The project is a masterpiece form beginning to end, and every track is as unique as Peck himself. Behind the fray masks and heavy guitar, there is a vulnerable Peck who, at the albums very purest form, tries to remember, and cherish every part of a relationship that is as gone as last summer. For a track by track rundown of the EP, read our article here.

Sam Smith

Largely due in part to his incredible extended play “Show Pony”, Orville Peck takes the cake for artist of the year. Peck pushed the boundaries of what country could look like, sound like, and talk about. Like a modern, more alternative Johnny Cash, Peck’s voice bridges the gap between the country of the past that we all know and love, and a more contemporary country scene that is blooming. Before Peck, many members of the LGBTQ+ community couldn’t relate as easily with country music, but thanks to Peck, there is a new kind of country powerhouse. However Peck never lets this define him, allowing his music to stand out on its own. Peck’s powerful voice, mixed with his incredible crooner lyrics create masterpieces that will have an effect on the country music scene for years to come.
