Machine Gun Kelly X Blackbear Release "my ex's best friend"

On Friday, August 7th, Machine Gun Kelly and Blackbear released a punk rock track titled “my ex’s best friend”. This marks the first time Blackbear and Machine Gun Kelly have collaborated. The song comes after MGK’s “concert for aliens” released just a few days prior. So lets dive in to the meaning behind the song.

The songs opens with a punk guitar strumming over Colson’s opening verse. Here Kelly describes an encounter he had with his ex’s best friend in New York City. Then the chorus picks up with Baker proclaiming “I swear to god, I’d never fall in love, then you showed up, and I can’t get enough of it” seamlessly stating the way his intentions have changed since meeting this girl. Blackbear takes it from here starting off by “apologiz(ing) to nobody”, then he condemns his ex for the way she treats him now. He owns up that he made mistakes but what she did (probably cheating) was unforgivable. He then raps about how he wishes that she would leave him alone for good before jumping back into the chorus. The song ends with both Blackbear and MGK singing “I read those texts you sent to yours but you’ll never say it yeah”. Over all the song is very well rounded and is a massive improvement quality wise from some of Colson’s earlier works. We also find Blackbear in a more serious tone compared to some of his other tracks. However the writting on the songs could have been better, but the story and feelings presented in the song were demonstrated very clearly.

So... What’s next? Along side the release of the song, a pre-order for Machine Gun Kelly’s new album “Ticket to My Downfall” appeared on iTunes. “my ex’s best friend” as well as “concert for aliens” appear on the preorder along with the previously released “bloody valentine”. The album is expected on September 25 and if the entire album reflects these singles, I think we are truly in for a treat.
